Kitchen Organization

30 December 2009
2

Since we moved into this house, our life has been in a constant state of flux. First, we got pregnant only a month after we moved in. We threw the house together and then hunkered down for our grand adventure. Having never owned a home before, we moved in like renters. We put stuff wherever and didn't put much though into planning our home.

Now that a year has passed and we've got a baby, it seems like a good time to really start making this house our own. I got this book called The Home Organizing Workbook by Meryl Starr. I'm going through each chapter and completing the organization projects until I finish our house. Hopefully when I'm through, our home will be tidy and organized and I'll be less stressed about the clutter that tends to build up when everything doesn't have a "place".

This week I started with the kitchen since it gets a lot of traffic. We both work from home and have a little one, so every meal tends to make a mess. The pantry was a shambles, the cabinets and drawers in disarray, and nothing was easily found or put away. I read the kitchen chapter thoroughly and devised a plan for redoing our kitchen. Of course, it's going to be different for everyone, but the advice in the book is helpful and the step-by-step plans really handy for staying focused on each project.

You can view all the images of my newly organized kitchen HERE. There are lots of notes about the project that may be helpful to you, just in case you get inspired to organize too!

Love this. First of all, love your kitchen - the white cabinets, stainless, granite? Love it. Also Keurig? YAY KEURIG, Do you have difficulty opening the door with the pots and pans and the trash cans behind them? I think I sort of organized my kitchen but would like to revisit it a bit... I may check this book out!

We actually don't use that door much. It only goes into the driveway and so we rarely even open it. I can see that if we were using it though, that having stuff behind it might get annoying...
